FARM NEWS:
Summer pruning is under way! The raspberries are having a thin out and the new canes are being gradually tied up. The new growth in the logan, tay and blackberries are being trained on the wire supports in readiness for next year! This years loganberry plants have been fully pruned. Strawberry pruning and crown thinning is well underway.
We are working really hard to do as much pruning as we can to try and reduce the water usage.
The Pumpkin patch is looking amazing and the pumpkins and squash are growing daily! We might be able to harvest some soon! Hopefully we will be able to open the picking patch the first weekend of October.
We are also trialling the combo of sweetcorn and runner bean planting. With the aim that the runner beans will grow up the sweetcorn! We will see if it is successful!!
After a very harsh prune the plum trees are looking good. We were concerned that we had pruned them a little too harshly but they are looking smaller yet well! The plum crop however is not a good one. On the last count we saw 5!! Lets hope 2027 is a better year for plums!
Our tea room is also open when the Farm Shop is, but closes 30 minutes before the Shop does. We serve slices of our delicious homemade cakes and bakes, as well as sandwiches and toasties made from our homemade bread, sausage rolls, homemade quiche and cheese scones.
